If you aren't at SES Berlin, go to SES Chicago for 11 topics breaking
Search Engine Strategies Berlin is being held this week at the Crowne Plaza Berlin City Centre, and SES Chicago 2009 gets underway in two weeks at the Hilton Chicago. During the past 10 weeks, I've shared 10 important reasons for going to these must-attend events. For those of you who want to join in the chorus, they are: 10 authors speaking, nine trainers training, eight days a-learning, seven tracks amazing, six booths astounding, five brand new things, four keynote themes, three key trends, two early birds, and a ranking in the top three. This week, I'll share an eleventh significant...
Go to SES Berlin or Chicago for (Over) Ten Authors Speaking
During the past nine weeks, I've shared nine significant reasons for going to either Search Engine Strategies Berlin or SES Chicago 2009. For those of you who want to join in the chorus, they are: "nine trainers training, eight days a-learning, seven tracks amazing, six booths astounding, five brand new things, four keynote themes, three key trends, two early birds, and a ranking in the top three." This week, I'll share a tenth important reason -- and it isn't to see "ten lords a-leaping." You should attend these events to hear well over ten authors speaking. Actually, there will be...
Go to SES Berlin or SES Chicago for Nine Trainers Training
During the past seven weeks, I've shared seven compelling reasons for going to either Search Engine Strategies Berlin or SES Chicago 2009. For those of you who want to join in the chorus, they are "eight days a-learning, seven tracks amazing, six booths astounding, five brand new things, four keynote themes, three key trends, two early birds, and a ranking in the top three." This week, I'll share an eighth great reason -- and it isn't "nine ladies dancing." You should attend these events for "nine trainers training." As I mentioned back in September, training is one of the three...
Go to SES Berlin or SES Chicago for Eight Days A-Learning
During the past seven weeks, I've shared seven compelling reasons for going to either Search Engine Strategies Berlin or SES Chicago 2009. For those of you who want to join in the chorus, they are "seven tracks amazing, six booths astounding, five brand new things, four keynote themes, three key trends, two early birds, and a ranking in the top three." This week, I'll share an eighth great reason -- and it isn't "eight maids a-milking." You should attend these events for "eight days a-learning." SES Berlin starts on 23 November with one day of "workshop" and continues 24 and...
Go to SES Berlin or SES Chicago for "Three Key Trends"
During the past two weeks, I've given you a couple of reasons why you should go to either Search Engine Strategies Berlin or SES Chicago 2009. For those who want to sing along, they were "two early birds," and "a ranking in the top three." There are other compelling reasons to attend one of these upcoming Search Engine Strategies conferences -- and it isn't to get "three French hens." That might have been persuasive back in the Middle Ages, but it hardly seems relevant or important these days. The compelling reasons driving us to attend SES Berlin or Search Engine...
Search Industry Reacts to Yahoo!-Microsoft Deal, and They're Not Holding Back
Here at Search Engine Watch, we wanted to reach out to the search community to get their reaction to the long-awaited search deal between Microsoft and Yahoo! Not surprisingly, marketers, search engine representives, and agencies had a lot to say on the matter. Below you'll find their initial reactions to this morning's announcement. The deal is good for marketers and advertisers Most agree with Search Engine Watch editor Kevin Newcomb, who earlier wrote today that the MSFT-YHOO deal is good for advertisers. Ted Shergalis, co-founder and chief strategy officer of [x+1] thinks the deal raises the profile of search marketers,...
Measuring the Marketing ROI of Attending SES San Jose
If you register to attend SES San Jose 2009 by Friday, July 24, you can save up to $200. But you already knew that. The bigger question that you -- and other Chief Marketing Officers -- are looking to answer is this: How do you measure the return on investment in going to a search engine marketing conference? Now, measuring marketing ROI isn't a hard science. It's more of a social science. But there some reasonable approaches that you can use to figure out the value of attending SES San Jose 2009. Ask yourself this question: Can I afford to...
Big Stories from Day 3 of SES New York 2009
There were just as many big stories on Day 3 of SES New York 2009 as there were on the first two days of the event. Since I took the Acela back to Boston last night, I'm only getting around to reporting on them this morning. The big story was the morning keynote by John Gerzema, Chief Insights Officer at Young & Rubicam Group and author of "The Brand Bubble." In her post, "Morning Keynote: John Gerzema," Lisa Barone of Outspoken Media wrote, "John starts off. Marketing is your way out of the recession. In 2008, there was a credit...
Schedule Optimization for Newbies at SES New York 2009
Search Engine Strategies gets underway next week. If you've never been to SES New York before, then navigating the conference agenda can seem almost as complex as planning your search engine marketing strategy for 2009. Actually, that's what the Search Engine Strategies conference is supposed to help you do. But, first time attendees often try to learn everything they need to know about SEM in just three days. If search engine optimization were just a handful of tricks and pay-per-click advertising consisted of only a couple of short-cuts, then there wouldn't be 65 conference sessions, six search engine marketing training...
Where's The Online TV Search?
As consumers, we should be thrilled the TV networks have started delivering nice, deep inventories of video clips and longer-form videos online. That's great until you want to explore the current and archived stuff on each domain. Maybe I should cut some slack to our beloved cable and broadcast networks, who are used to having audiences find their fare through on-air guides and remote controls. After all, TV audiences don't conduct free-form searches to find shows. But I don't think any video providers deserve this break. So where's the online TV search? Last week, I asked many Future TV Show...
Google Employee Blog Goes Back Up
Mark Jen, the Google employee whose blog content disappeared after he made some criticisms of the company, is back up and blogging again. In a new post, he explains that he had some stuff "that's not supposed to be there" and removed the entire blog as the "quickest way for me to fix the situation." What stuff? Doing a quick comparison using Microsoft Word between what's up now and what was there, this is what was removed from a post on this day, the removed portions shown in bold: they started off the day with a financials presentation, which was...
Blogger Founder, Evan Williams, Saying Goodbye to Google
Evan Williams, the founder of Pyra Labs/Blogger and currently the Blogger Program Manager, has just posted an announcement on EVHEAD (his blog) that he's leaving Google this Friday. Google purchased Pyra Labs in February 2003. William's mentions that he's gotten the "itch" to start a new company but isn't commiting to anything at the moment. He also writes that it's time to "pay attention" to other parts of his life. Problems at Google? Williams says that his departure has nothing to do with with Google or Google management. He writes that "all and all they've been awesome" and have "pretty...
