AdWords Keyword Tool Now Shows Numerical Data
If you hear loud shouts of exuberance coming from your SEM department (or consultant), that's because keyword research just got a whole lot easier. I'm super-excited to report that Google announced that it has officially added numerical data to its AdWords Keyword Tool. Now instead of staring at green bars, hoping to decipher how much of a difference there is between keywords, you have a ballpark figure. Tests of numbers in Keyword Tool were being seen as early as March 2007.

This brings a smile to my face that I expect will last all week, if not longer. I can't tell you how frustrating it has been to be denied the data that Google can so easily provide to advertisers.

It's weird that the numbers don't seem proportionate to the graphs. Whats up with that?
I'm viewing this like the Google Link: command. Can't be trusted, and has to be supplemented with other data.

Definitely long awaited!
I still remember talking to Google about two years ago and asking them when they were going to give us search volume numbers in their keyword tool like the overture tool did.
Their answer: Not likely due to privacy reasons. They were concerned that individual users could be identified through longer tail queries so they were more cautious with this data.
Happy to see that they changed their minds - or that we all helped them change their minds!

This spells the death of Wordtracker and others. I did some tests, and some of the early numbers are way different.
Only problem is there is no way yet to add in the Yahoo, Live, and AOL numbers.

Not any more...no Competition or Search numbers for at least 2 days...anyone know what's going on?
