Facebook Changes: Navigation, Photo Uploads and Bing

Get ready for the "Bring Back the Old Facebook" groups.

There's a flurry of changes going on at Facebook and they should be quite noticeable to even the most casual observer.

First of all, Facebook has changed their navigation. Again. Yes, it's like changing your underwear. Assuming that you change your underwear regularly.

The new navigation updates are rolling out, so you may not have them yet - but you'll get them soon. It basically involves a new, comprehensive dashboard along the left sidebar. Plus, notifications are easily accessed across a new top bar. Here are screenshots per the Facebook blog:

Meanwhile, Facebook is also launching a new way to upload photos. When your account has received the change, you'll be prompted to install a plugin for your web browser. You will be required to install it in order to upload photos in the future.

After the install, a photo browser will appear in a dialogue box on your screen. It will mimic how you open a file on your average desktop program on your computer.

Once you've selected photos to upload, you'll be able to conduct other tasks while the upload is taking place (aka asynchronous uploading). When the upload is complete, you'll get a notification informing your photo is ready.

Last but not least, Facebook and Bing have updated their partnership. Bing search will be further integrated by offering features such as Instant Answers. The search partnership remains exclusive. But Microsoft will no longer be selling display ads for Bing.

By the way, Happy Birthday to Facebook, which celebrated its 6th year of service last year. They're running strong with 400 million members worldwide.

This is all great news for Facebook and Bing and for search marketers! It's been a long wait.

I already updated my Facebook status several hours ago as soon as i noticed the change with a similar title as your topic haha. Get ready for the Facebook group join spam also!

There is a big possibility that the bring back old facebook groups will appear. I personally prefer the old facebook homepage design. For me it's more organized. On the left side, you will see your online friends. So what is the use of the pop-version of it at the bottom right? It doesn't make sense at all!

The new changes are just plain BS. Getting ready to dump the whole thing. It used to be fun. Now it just sucks!

So unhappy with the new Facebook. Read the information and the "Newsfeed" is not a list of chronological updates from your friends... it's based on the "most popular" posts. What? How do I know what my friends are doing if their updates never post to my page? I suppose I have to visit each of their pages?? Disappointed. About to cancel my account. :-/

I don't like it either. Even clicking on Most Recent on the news feed, I don't get the most recent. Currently, the newest post I see is 4 hours old. I know that isn't correct because if I refresh the page enough times, I'll get the most recent (5 minutes old). That only last until the page is refreshed again.

I hate this. It's so frustrating. Can anyone tell me how to fine the list of friend? I posted something and it was gone. I don't get it!!!

HATE CHANGES....I had all my former friends grouped into personal friends, business associates, church friends etc. and could look at each list and get updates out of the hundreds of friends I've accepted. Now all gets lost in the shuffle. Facebook now decides which posts you should see when and from what I can tell on the internet...Facebook is now focusing on branding and marketing and NOT a social network that made it the success it is after six years. I predict use will suffer.

I don't mind change if things work, make life simpler etc but sadly this hasn't happened. E.g. I have to click back to the home page every time I want to access an app whereas before they were always bookmarked on the bottom toolbar. Updates are just weird and nothing works properly. Getting lots of complaints about it not working on Blackberry either. I appreciate changing 4 million users to a new layout etc is quite a task but to be getting it so wrong just as Google Buzz makes an appearance is interesting.

Cannot get into facebook using my blackberry. Tells me no stream available. Is there a fix

shari paulsen  February 10, 2010 9:49 PM

The uploader does not work. It says redirecting you to facebook. it does but my photos are never uploaded when it does. I have to go back and this time it does not redirect and the photos are uploaded but I hate that they post before I have edited them ! How can this be changed. HOW can I go back to my old uploader ??????

Whatever the the design and layout would facebook have it still the number 1 social networking sites. It doesn't really matter what it looks like as long as we keep in touch with our family, old and new friends, relatives, acquaintance and every one else.
