Google AdWords Launches Ad Sitelinks

Google is introducing sitelinks to AdWords. If you're not familiar, sitelinks are links to pages deeper on a website. We've seen them in organic results for quite awhile.

Ad Sitelinks are only being launched to advertisers that meet a high-quality threshold. If your account qualifies, go to your Campaign Settings Tab, then to the "Ad extensions" section. Look for "Show additional links to my site."

Here's a sample ad provided by the Inside AdWords blog (click to enlarge):

We've got a screenshot of the form to add the sitelinks under some of our client account. It's not the easiest to find.

Earlier in China, a new feature very similar to Adwords ad sitelinks was launched in beta and was only available for a few selected "trademark / brand" keywords

Does anyone know what the model is for the cost? If it is max bid, which max bid does it take as it is set up at campaign level.

I had some concerns with this and asked google. My questions and reponses are below:

1. How will this affect the google plusbox listings, or will it? Will it show these links and the plusbox?
ANSWER: This has no affect on the products plusbox feature, and sitelinks will show in addition to the plusbox.

2. How can I track these? These links do not generate tracking in Omniture or Coremeterics so I will not know how the perform.
ANSWER: Unfortunately we don't provide the ability to have keyword level tracking. While this is part of the features we'll work on, we've seen that most of the CTR uplift doesn't happen in the links themselves but rather on the headline, which indeed shows the keyword level URL (if specified in the AdWords account). Because of this, bidding systems working at a keyword level should still pick up the majority of the boost in CTR that we expect out of this ad format.

Hopes this helps everyone.

You can track these site links. You supply the the URL in Adwords. We have no issues with tracking.

Brad, you probably can track them in adwords or google analytics, but if you use omniture or coremetrics and import your campaigns they will not track (I tried it before I contacted my google rep). For 3rd party analytics programs, the only other way I can think of is to create parameters on each url when you add them to the "ad extensions" feature that your analytics program will recognize. This will generate a separate report and you can probably combine them later. It would be a pain, but could probably be done.

Hi,

It all seems pretty cool - but has anyone seen a working example not the ones given out by Google as an example?

We saw one for Play.com about a month ago but having added our own we have not seen them?

This is despite placing 1 and having QS of around 10 for most keywords in the campaign.

Anybody got a search i can make for a working example?

Thanks

Adwords ad sitelinks does not have a different Max CPC pricing model. As usual by default it will take your Ad Group Max CPC (if you haven't set your keyword a Max CPC), otherwise it will use your keyword's Max CPC (if you have set Max CPC for your individual keywords).

i dont quite like this, ppc has always been about targeted and focused marketing, these sitelinks are mere distractions at best.

search-marketing-singapore  November 5, 2009 5:29 AM

We set these up for a campaign within our site but when the site links didn't appear in the search results we contacted Google who told us that the site links only generally appear for brand terms where the ads ALWAYS appear in the 1st position.

There doesn't seem much point in having the site links for a brand term however as a search on a brand tern nearly always brings up site links within the natural listings - so really all Google are doing is making you pay for clicks on links that you would have got for free without them.

Has every ad with a high QS a change to get the sitelinks? beceause then you can have an ad for multitools with a link for knives. Is that possible?

thanks for your post
in my opinion,Adwords ad sitelinks does not have a different Max CPC pricing model

Interesting article, am a little undecided though on the inclusion of these new sitelinks, only time will tell.

I have been trialling AdWords Sitelinks this week and was wondering if you know of a way to get data on the number of times your ad was shown with Sitelinks included?
