Microsoft Lobbyists Meet to Thwart Google; Politics as Usual Ensues

Daily Finance, an AOL site, is reporting that Microsoft's lobbyists hold weekly meetings where the discussion revolves around taking on Google. In attendance are consultants and others who oppose Google. The meetings have become known as "screw Google" meetings by DC insiders.

I used to work in politics. I used to work in DC. These type of meetings happen all the time, in all sorts of industries and with all sorts of issues. It's not a Microsoft or Google thing. It's not a Democrat or Republican thing. It's a politics thing.

Google lobbyists meet to discuss Microsoft, I would assume. If they don't, then Google should fire them for being crappy at their job.

Move on, there's nothing to see here. Just politics as usual in the nation's capital.

I think the reason this is news is because Microsoft doesn’t compete, they anti-compete. They are famous for it, and they’ve been convicted of it.

So they aren’t sitting there at their Screw Google meeting saying “let’s make a free version of Windows with just an HTML 5 browser so that Chrome OS doesn’t get any traction in the market,” they’re saying, “how can we improve our anti-competitive deals with PC makers so that it’s even harder if not impossible for them to ship Chrome OS systems?”

> Please. This is business
> is usual.

It’s probably Microsoft business as usual, but not business as usual.

I mean, even the name of the meeting, “Screw Google” just fits their juvenile attitude. They have never had to compete because they were essentially given the DOS monopoly and they illegally turned that into a Windows monopoly. So when they get together to “strategize to thwart a rival” they write “Screw Google” on a whiteboard and figure out how they can put sugar in the Google gas tank.

They should be writing “Save Microsoft” on the whiteboard and working that topic through for a while.

Per Daily Finance, I don't think Microsoft is naming the meetings "Screw Google," it's what political insiders have dubbed them.

90% of the tech news you read is written by Microsoft or people who, one way or another, work for Microsoft.

Zato, I have never worked for Microsoft, and I seriously doubt 90% of tech news is written by people who do or who have worked for them.

After working in politics, I don't recommend it as a career, but I can assure you there are a ton of political strategy meetings for just about every issue in DC!
