YouTube Gives New Look to Channels, Launches Trailers Page, and Sees Mobile Upload Increases

There's a bunch of news coming from YouTube in the past couple of days. First up, they're giving channels a makeover. Users can switch their channels over on their own now, but by July 15th all channels will be switched to the new look.

The University of Phoenix has already taken advantage of the new look. Check out their new channel design (click on the image for a larger view or visit the page here.)

The YouTube blog has nearly 50,000 comments on the matter and many of them are a variation of this:

It looks like YouTube may be facing Facebook's problems when it comes to changing things up. No sign yet from YouTube that they'll go back to the old channels.

Next up in YouTube news has launched a page for movie trailers.

I finally got a chance to see the trailer for The Time Traveler's Wife, which opens in August:

Last but absolutely not least, YouTube is seeing an increase in mobile uploads of videos. In the past six months, mobile uploads have increased by 1700%. Since just last Friday, the day of the iPhone 3G S release - the first iPhone with video, mobile uploads have increased by a whopping 400%.

What do you think of this YouTube news? Let us know by leaving a comment.

Youtube as always is forgeting the heart of the community,USERS, yet again partners are given more options to promote themselves, the users very little options with the channels
Myself I think most just use youtube for videos to link to their blog or website and are not even in the youtube site itself, which will bring traffic down, but up on the videos

I was using youtube for 2 years so far, when i heard the news, and tested the new channel design , it was horrible looking. I had a very very nice looking youtube channel up and running, and if they are going to force everyone to use that POS new design, well after i heard the news, i didn't feel like uploading any new videos. I didn't feel like making anymore comments or even watching anymore videos, so maybe a few hours later, i deleted my account.

Now i am using dailymotion which has a wonderful design and uploading videos is quick.

So come july 15th if they do not give us a option to switch back to the old channel at youtube, well i am never coming back.

And btw check out my myspace page, you see how nice it looks, compared that to the new myspace channel design ugh. Myspace was cool enough to let us choose, not force it.

It honestly looks like they copied from another site and threw it together in 5 minutes. It's horrible compared to the old design, and if they make it permanent, quite frankly, I'll leave youtube. I'm sure a lot of other people will too.

Thanks for being maybe the first to cover the story - FYI the comments are now about to hit 60,000.

All people want is the OPTION to keep the old design or something close to it. The new design is terrible.

Youtube used to look good, but now they have ruined it. The users are important and should be allowed to choose if they want to stay with the old design or have the new one.

If enough people leave Youtube, then maybe they might realise they made a huge mistake and be forced to change it. Will be interesting to see what happens on the 15th.

Youtube should give us the decision of choosing which kind we want. So everyone out there who is reading this and don't want Youtube to change, comment on this site. Also YouTube watchers: If they don't change it back the right way, just quit going on to YouTube. Maybe then they will realize they made a huge mistake and give us at least a choice or completely change YouTube back. They just want to change it so they will get lots of subscribers and money and all that crap.

I am not pleased with the change. The new channels should not be forced on users. I am thinking of making a Daily Motion account to possibly leave YouTube should they refuse to let the users have a choice.

You will all bitch and whine on the 15th. After 4 days you will all come back, whine more - then accept the fact that your opinions on the matter are crap and should finally shut up. Then you will shut up until youtube launches a new beta page. Which then this process will be repeated.
