Ascent of Mt. Everest by Sir Edmund Hilary: New Google Logo
Google has created a logo on its homepage to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary's ascent of Mt Everest, the world's highest mountain..
Sir Edmund Hilary, a New Zealand native, died in January. His ascent of Mt. Everest, with Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, was the first to reach the peak.
The only problem?
The logo is only visible on the Australian and New Zealand Google homepages:
* Google.co.au
* Google.co.nz
Google celebrates special events and anniversaries by changing its logo, much as the Empire State Building changes its lighting scheme to celebrate holidays.
UPDATE: The logo appears to be showing up on Google's home pages worldwide.

So why oh why didn't they target the US for a Memorial Day logo???

This was probably a time change issue.

What I find interesting is Google's adversion to commemorating Memorial day. Memorial Day passed by without mention on Google, this is an important day to Americans. As a matter of fact they have never honored the day with a logo. They did a logo for Bastille Day but shunned Memorial day? They have one for the Persian New Year, Thanksgiving, Independence day and even Veterens day, but Not Memorial day? All of these other days have religious and nationalistic origins, which is just fine with me. But why exclude such and obvious and important day like Memorial day?

I think they should have every special day to every countries home page, as there is usually around 10 special days per year to every country, so this makes around 2000 or more special day's.
Google please get your logo design department to work!
