The Twitter Birds Just Can't Lift That Whale

The constant over capacity problems Twitter is experiencing - and also its millions of new users - has been creating a situation where people are slowing there use of this new social media community. Whenever the site goes down and back up it is inundated with comments about it going down which in some cases causes it to drop offline again.

There have been offers of donations and suggestions of ways to monetize. The Twitter team - tweam? - has their hands full. But lets hope this gets solved soon.

You have to love the picture though... well captures the size problems they are having right now.

"...people are slowing there use of this..."

I think you mean "people are slowing THEIR use of this"

Wow... I like the fact that my first grade teacher follows my blog posts... I always had problems with spelling...

I wonder if all the people that twitter and take the system down really have a life, or are they just there because it's the in thing, street cred and all that.

And they also twitter about the smallest thing.

I personally can't see a lot of use in twitter for me, as I only use SMS occasionally, and that's usually if I think the person is likely to be working, sleeping, in conference, etc.

Plus I invariably need more than 140 characters, and I also make use of SMS, Skype, Skype Out, Skype in with voice mail, MSN, multiple email addresses and Landlines, Blogs and Forums. So do I need Twitter?

I'm sure there could be a killer app for twitter in some situations, but I think that SMS and eMail will be able to cover them even on the move anyway.

its not a pacemaker. if you business suffers when it goes down, you probably have bigger problems to deal with. btw, i find it fun and useful.

@AussieWebmaster - sure, twitter is full of useless rambling. But in my opinion it is best used as a part of your newsradar, you'll find a lot of blog owners within the industry on twitter who will update you when they post something new on their blog - it also gives you the unique opportunity to discuss blog posts directly with the owners.

This gives you a better insight and allows you to cover the same story with a much more informed perspective on your own blog.

If done correctly you can develop relationships with several blog owners - and use twitter to notify your followers of an update on your blog without coming across as directly spamming your website.

i like twitter a lot. i signed up over a year ago but didn't think it was much at that time and let it sit on the shelf (so to speak).
about a month ago i started back up with it again and it's become a "must use" service for me. the community is great and beyond the general chatter, this service provides me with a "pulse" of what's going on on the internet. i have repeatedly been exposed to new sites, software, crusades - you name it.
this is definitely a great way to find out what is going on in the world.
