Adware and Accountability

In what looks like to be the last chapter of Intermix Media's (formerly eUniverse) checkered spyware past, its former CEO and founder Brad Greenspan agreed to pay $750,000 for secretly installing apps on tens of millions of computers. (cont.)

Greenspan admitted no wrongdoing -- in fact, he pointed the finger at Intermix's current management for upping the adware. He was under investigation by NY State Attorney General Eliott Spitzer. The company itself settled Spitzer's case against it in June, agreeing to pay $7.5 million over three years.

In July, News Corp. acquired Intermix, owner of MySpace.com.
